With your support, Eric Wilkins will be taking the two-year mindfulness teacher training offered by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP). Eric comes to this training with many years of Zen practice, participation in Rebecca Bradshaw’s one-week silent retreat last May, and in Jack and Tara’s course on The Power of Awareness.
After returning to Detroit from San Diego in 2011, Eric pursued his education at Wayne County Community College and at Wayne State University, which awarded him a Master’s degree in Social Work in 2016. He’s currently a psychotherapist in Detroit. Since arriving in Detroit, Eric became involved in Still Point Zen Buddhist Temple and became an ordained Zen lay priest who now facilitates their training program. Before returning to Detroit in 2011, Eric was released from a California state prison and has maintained his freedom from substance addiction, which was the central reason for becoming incarcerated. These justice-impacted experiences drive his diligent engagement of Zen Buddhism and secular prison outreach volunteering efforts, as well as his intention to teach mindfulness to those incarcerated and/or struggling with substance abuse.
Eric is an inspiration. By becoming a certified mindfulness meditation teacher, Eric will further expand his community reach providing more access to mindfulness practices.
Thank you again for your support and contributions. If you would like to donate to future mindfulness teacher training scholarships for underrepresented communities in Southern Michigan, we welcome your donation.
